What are Western Region Projects

Western Region Training System
Purpose Statement:
To produce the best alpine ski racers in the world at the developmental, sub-national team level by offering complementary cooperative training with Tri-Regional, Western Region Divisional, and Western Region club and academy training programs/plans.

Goals:
1. To assist management, athletic training, and competition performance programs of the top Western 
    Athletes of U16, U18, U21 and senior age categories.
2. To establish and conduct an athlete talent detection and development system that tracks and
    measures the performance and performance characteristics of top regional racers at various
    chronological points in their ski racing development.
3. To contribute as productively, professionally, and fully possible in the achievement of the USSA Mission of
     being the best nation in ski competition in the world.

Spring/Summer projects

April 30th-May 4th 2014 U18 SG/GS Terrain Camp (YOB 97&98) Mammoth, CA  Click here for Project Announcement
Eligible: YOB 97: Any member of the U18 National Team; top 3 U18 in any race at WR Junior Champs; YOB 98: WR U16 National Team; any 2nd yr U16 athlete finishing top 15 overall in U16 Regional Championships, any 2nd yr athlete that attended U16 Nov Speed projects. Content will include focus on proper execution of event related skill in relation to jumping, transitions and terrain adaptations in SG and GS. Both natural and artificial terrain features will be used. Equipment testing of GS skis and boots will also be available. (5 days on snow)

June 14th-18th 2014 U16 Flight School and Terrain Camp Bachelor OR Click here for Project Announcement
Eligible: Any athlete finishing top ten in the 99 birth year, or placing top 30 overall in any event; or attended any U16 project last summer. Content and Goals: This camp is designed to develop the technical skills involved in jumping, gliding, aerodynamics, and terrain management. Through various elements and terrain the athlete will reinforce the fundamental movement patterns and mechanics related to sound flight and terrain management. (5 days on snow)

August 1st- 6th 2014 U16 GS/SL Fundamentals Camp Mt Hood OR Click here for Project Announcement
Eligible: Any athlete in the top 15 for YOB 99 at the 2013 WR U16 Junior Championships; Attended any WR U16 project last summer. Content and Goals: This camp is designed to focus on the refinement of technique and tactics in GS/SL radius turns. Emphasis on fundamental movement patterns and skiing skills as they relate to the transition of the turn will be focused on.

August 1st– 6th 2014 RTG WR SL CAMP Mt Hood, OR Click here for Project Announcement

Fall Prep Period Projects

September 12-26th 2014 RTG WR CHILE 4 Event CAMP La Parva, Chile Click here for Project Announcement
Eligible: WR Team Members, WR J2 Nationals Team, any athlete attending the May tri region SG/GS Camp. Content and Goals: This camp is designed to focus on technical and tactical preparation for four event training. Content will include, jumping, gliding technique, terrain elements in full length courses. Parallel to D Team men and Foreign National teams women

Oct 2014 TBD WR Fall Conditioning Camp/Testing Park City, UT
Eligible: WR Team Members and RTG. Content and Goals: This project is designed to cover various realms of conditioning and would incorporate testing. Content will be driven by USST team requirements & goals.

November 2014 TBD RTG WR SPEED CAMP Copper, CO
Eligible: National rank selection Content and Goals: This camp is designed to focus on athletes attending the early season speed NorAms. Content will included, jumping, gliding technique, terrain elements in full length courses

November 2014 TBD RTG WR TECH CAMP Copper, CO
Eligible: WR Team Members and RTG invites Content and Goals: This camp is designed to focus on athletes attending the early season tech NorAms. Camp will consist of full length courses in GS and SL.

November 2014 TBD U16 Speed Fundamentals/Terrain Camp Copper, CO
Eligible: Any athlete attending Flight School Content and Goals: This camp will build off of Flight School and focusing on gliding, jumping, terrain elements, transitions and turn shapes of DG/SG. Focus will be to establish and reinforce the fundamental movement patterns related for sound speed skills.

Dec. 2014 TBD Tri-Regional U18/U 21 SPEED CAMP Copper, CO
Eligible: National rank selection Content and Goals: This camp is designed to focus on athletes attending the early season speed NorAms. Full length DH and SG courses will be the focus.
