Meghan Tierney is a New Jersey girl who picked up snowboarding at a young age. She started to compete around five years ago. The 2013-2014 season was her second season competing in NorAms. It’s always important to have someone there to ride with who will push you to do better. Riding with friends, also, can make the sport a lot more fun and you can all push your self to each other’s best ability. Working out and training hard is one of the most important things in become a successful athlete. You need to be strong in order to be able to handle certain conditions or obstacles.

Meghan started to snowboard around the age of 10 at Okemo Mountain. She was taught by her father, Chris Tierney, who is one of her biggest supporters along with her mother. She started competing in all of the events such as halfpipe, slopestyle, snowboardcross and some slalom and giant slalom. She competed in local series in Southern Vermont where she was coached by Raschid Joyce, Ron Chiodi and Scott Horwath. She stopped doing slopestyle, giant slalom and slalom about four years ago. It wasn’t until two years ago that she began focusing only on snowboardcross. She says she has no regrets sticking with just snowboardcross. It was what she enjoyed doing most. Sometimes she will go back and hit the half pipe whenever she has the free time.

When Meghan isn’t on snow she is either working out in the gym or out in the water surfing. Meghan loves to surf with her brother Chris Tierney and sister Makayla Tierney. Meghan says that surfing is one of the best cross training, besides skateboarding, for boarder cross or any snow sport out there.
