BIOGRAPHY:
A student of the Stratton Mountain School and sibling to one of U.S. Snowboarding's finest, Serena Shaw had pondered a career in gymnastics before setting her sights on a snowboard, and since then the youngster has been tearing up the competition scene. In the 2011 season alone, Shaw marked off wins on the Rev Tour circuit and took a ninth in halfpipe and fifth in slopestyle in Calgary at her first appearance in a World Cup competition. Such strong finishes landed her a spot on the U.S. Snowboarding rookie team and her sights are set again—this time on the 2012 season .
SERENA SAYS:
This past year was amazing. I made new friends in the snowboarding world, and progressed beyond what I had expected to do. It was full of good memories, fun times and lots of hard work on and off the hill.
FIRST TRACKS:
Serena's first moments on a snowboard were at the age of four and under the instruction of her father Marc, as well as her good friend Olympic silver medalist Lindsey Jacobellis. Her first runs were taken at Stratton Mountain where she shredded in style—a pink one piece, to be exact.
OFF THE SNOW:
When Serena is off snow, she can be found working out with her team at SMS, hitting the school books, playing other sports such as skateboarding, soccer, swimming and tennis. Serena also quads and dirt bikes at her house during the summer. And she likes to hang out with her friends.
