World Champs: Women's Downhill Preview

SCHLADMING, Austria (Feb. 9) - Stacey Cook (Mammoth Mountain, CA) will lead a strong U.S. Ski Team into Sunday's FIS Alpine Ski World Championships women's downhill. Cook led Saturday's final downhill training by nearly two seconds. She will be joined by Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA), Alice McKennis (Glenwood Springs, CO) and Leanne Smith (N. Conway, NH). NBC will air the race at 3 p.m. ET with rebroadcast on Universal Sports Network at 4 p.m. ET.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Stacey Cook (Mammoth Mountain, CA) will lead a strong U.S. Ski Team into women's downhill after leading the last training run by nearly two seconds.
  • She will be joined by Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA), Alice McKennis (Glenwood Springs, CO) and Leanne Smith (N. Conway, NH).
  • All four U.S. women are ranked in the top 15 and are dominating the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup speed season.
  • McKennis has a win this season with Cook and Smith both on two World Cup podiums.
  • NBC will air the race at 3 p.m. ET with rebroadcast on Universal Sports Network at 4 p.m. ET
  • Upwards of 30,000 fans saw the men's downhill Saturday and the same numbers are expected Sunday.
  • The 2015 FIS Alpine Ski World Championships will return to the USA for Vail/Beaver Creek 2015.
